Motivation makes things hard

I am not particularly motivated to update this blog anymore.  It's a shame because I use computers every day and I learn a lot as a result.  I have a lot to share, but it's work.

Re-opening soon / Windows 7

I finished getting my bachelor's degree a couple of weeks ago (will get actual diploma in Dec) so now I have more time.  A site that I created for it was called 'Computer Tips' and this blog was created for that site.  I plan on adding tutorials to the site and posting general, random tips here in the blog (along with site updates).

I just finished installing Windows 7 (I got a House Party pack, which included a Windows 7 Ultimate Signature Edition disk) on my laptop, so now the laptop has Ubuntu 9.04, Vista (no service packs) and Windows 7.  Windows 7 was very easy to install (I had to shrink my Ubuntu partition to make room, since the Vista one would not cooperate with me) and it was also very fast.  With XP for example, it would take me a couple of hours to install.  Vista was about an hour, maybe a little more.  But 7 - that was about 45 minutes.

So far the other two OSes, Ubuntu and Vista seem to be fine.  Thank god.  I did back up my stuff, by the way.

So now I will be getting to know 7 - I already used a release candidate version of it, although  it was installed on a virtual machine.  Now I can use the real thing.

Added Software Links

It's late, but I've added the software links. At the moment I have only added links to software I have actually used. If you have any recommendations, you can post a comment on this post.

Most of the links are for video conversion software, and most of the software is free. Another thing is that most of the software listed is for Windows. I will add software links for Mac OS X this week.

The links are in the Video and Audio categories - just navigate to the main category pages and the conversion software link pages will be there.

Improved Navigation

It's been a really stressful week. I have added 'home' links to all of the tutorial pages - they should take you back to the start page in the content frame. I have also added a link to the bottom of the first part of the 'Converting Ogg Vorbis to MP3' tutorial, one that takes you to the second part (which makes it a total of two links on that page).

This week I plan to add the following:

  • Web Graphics - Scanning images for Web use
  • Video - Free Conversion Software
  • Video - Conversion Shareware
  • Video - Converting DivX/XviD video (avi) to DVD (vob)
  • Video - Ripping/downloading Flash video
Tomorrrow I would like to upload my listing of conversion freeware and software, which will probably be needed in order to use the tutorials.

Added Graphics and Audio sections

I have added the other two sections to the site, and one tutorial for each - Audio and Graphics. I am still woefully behind, though. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

If you are curious, you can see the original site here. It looks terrible and is full of ads, though.

Oh, and I noticed that the navigation is crap - none of the pages have Home links. However, there is a frame to the left that you can use, but there should be Home links on all the pages. I will make sure that they are created tomorrow, as it's really late at night.

First Post

I am working hard to get this site up. I have created a new layout for the site - not especially inspired, but it's better than the last one.

I am also now hosting this site on my paid-for site, so that there are no ads. I really don't like ads - they ruin a site's layout.

I don't know if everything will be up by tomorrow. Let's hope for the best.

Anyways, if you would like to leave a public comment, you can do so, or you can use the feedback form on the main site.
